Today we celebrate the independence of Belize from Great Britain.
I borrow the opening lines from our National prayer as we celebrate our 40th year. “Almighty and Eternal God, who through Jesus Christ has revealed Your Glory to all nations, please protect and preserve Belize, our beloved country.”
This year’s theme is Belize @ 40: Hopeful Hearts, Steady Hands, Together We Rise.
Let us take a look at these words and be encouraged as we celebrate our Independence.
Is your heart hopeful? Do you find it hard at times to hope in the face of difficult times? We are reminded that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, . . . (Romans 5:3-5) Hope does not put us to shame, that my friend, is a promise we can hold on to.
I love reading this verse in The Passion Translation, “Now may God, the fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope!” (Romans 15:13) This is my prayer for you today.
Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18
Are your hands steady and strong?
Steady hands are needed as we put our hands to the plow, as we continue the good work on God has ordained for us to do.
This life will present many challenges that will threaten our peace and our confidence in God. When we face tough times may we pray like Nehemiah, “God strengthen my hands“.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
Moses, a great leader hands grew tired too and he had Aaron and Hur to support him so that his hands would remain steady. This brings me to the last part of our theme for this year, we need each other.
But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. Exodus 17:12
Together We Rise
Together. Let us rise together. In a time where we see a lot of division, it’s easy to go on the journey alone, each to his or her own. We must be intentional about reaching out to others, whether it’s to lend a hand or to reach for a hand of support. We don’t have to go alone.
Aaron and Hur took note of Moses’ weariness, they also noticed that when Moses’ hands were down, they began to lose the battle. They took a stone so he could sit and then they showed us a great example, one on one side, the other on the other side. Moses’ hands became steady and the battle was won. The Israelites defeated their enemies because everyone did their part.
I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things. Mother Teresa
I pray that your hearts will be filled with hope, that God will cause your hands to remain steady and strong and that He will bring your helpers to aid you on your journey, and that you will join hands so that together we can rise.
Hopeful hearts, steady hands, together we rise. Happy Independence Day Belize!
